OEKOSTROUM

RENEWABLE ENERGY

We at OekoStroum Luxembourg S.A. are aware that a sustainable future for our country in the field of renewable energy is only possible through the expansion of the circular economy, in particular through the expansion of wind power in Luxembourg. As a local renewable energy, wind power is a natural part of this new economic concept. The life cycle of a wind farm is 20 to 25 years and the wind turbines can be completely dismantled and recycled. They do not cause any environmental pollution - therefore, wind energy is the best alternative to fossil fuels from our point of view.

CLIMATE PROTECTION

OEKOSTROUM SA

Wind turbines are the most cost-effective way of generating electricity in the field of renewable energy. Therefore, the use of wind energy plays an important role in the development of a sustainable energy supply.

MAIN BENEFITS OF WIND ENERGY:

  1. Wind is a resource that will always exist. Since the uneven distribution of solar radiation on our planet guarantees temperature and consequently pressure differences, there will always be wind whose kinetic energy can be harnessed by man. Consequently, renewable energies, especially wind energy, will never have the problem of running out of resources, as is the case, for example, with fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal.

  2. In the field of renewable energies, wind energy is characterized by a good CO2 balance. Since no emissions of the climate-damaging gas carbon dioxide (CO2) are produced during the operation of a wind turbine, increased use of wind turbines has a positive effect on total CO2 emissions and makes a significant contribution to reducing the harmful effects of climate change.

NATURAL RESERVE

Since wind turbines do not emit CO2 or other greenhouse gases, they help to stop climate change to some extent and thus also protect our forests. Whether renewable energy and forests go together depends above all on the type of forest. As with any wind farm site, possible forest locations are carefully examined beforehand and the interests of nature conservation are given priority. The wind farm has no impact on forest functions, and since only a small area of 0.2 hectares has to remain unforested for a wind turbine, forestry use is also hardly affected.

SPECIES PROTECTION

Species protection, animal welfare and environmental awareness are as important to us as they are to you. Whether red kite or black stork, bat, wildcat, insect or dormouse - the best possible and most comprehensive protection as well as the maintenance of natural habitats - not only - of endangered species is a very high priority for us.  When planning our wind farms, we are obliged to carry out bird and bat surveys prior to any construction. If these are positive, the necessary nature conservation permit is granted for the construction of the wind turbines.

Our goal is to realize our wind farms without significant consequences not only for local residents but also for fauna and flora.

CLIMATE PACT 2.0

RENEWABLE ENERGIES - CLIMATE TARGETS LUXEMBOURG

The Paris Agreement of Dec. 12, 2015 includes, among other things, the goals of limiting global warming to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels and to accelerate efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. In terms of compatibility with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, the Luxembourg government has decided to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the national level for sectors outside the EU emissions trading scheme by 55% by 2030 compared to the reference year 2005. In addition, an energy efficiency target of 40-44% by 2030 and to increase the share of renewable energy to 25% by 2030 was set.

Renewable energy for a more livable future - We are rising to the challenge and are planning 14 new on-shore plants in Luxembourg by 2025, in addition to the wind farms already implemented in Feelen and Weiler.

PARTICIPATIONS

The energy turnaround can only succeed as a community project.  As the people responsible for our wind farms, the acceptance of the community and its residents is very important to us when selecting the sites for the individual wind turbines. For this reason, we also organize information events on the subject of renewable energies in the run-up to our projects, at which we provide comprehensive information on all the essential background information.  Residents of the respective communities can also participate financially in our wind turbines.

We deal with this world as if we had a second one in the trunk.
